Hi over to Syney from the 31st Jan for 6 nights, just wondered if anyone can give me some info on the Gay life in Australia Sydney area of sydney where to go and which places are best as an unknown face to the sydney scene.

I just came back from Sydney I usually stay in the Surry Hills area which is close Sex experience in Kalgoorlie Oxford Streetconsidered the "gay capital" of Sydney it's where the Mardi Gras is held Oxford Street is sometimes, I note, referred to on TA in reviews mostly as "seedy" but I actually quite like the areas vibrant atmosphere and the fact that there's always something open and happening.
I can see why some people would find it a bit confronting Plus I noticed a very tastefully named shop selling alcohol called the "Lick Her Shop". Top streets incl Oxford, Bourke, Crown and Stanley.

Oxford being the most 'out there' and in-your-face. BTW If you stay at the city end of Oxford near Hyde Park there's about places to choose from you're only a 20 minute walk to Circular Quay or catch the train from Museum station or bus to CQ heaps go down Oxford Massage grandville Adelaide to the city.
Hey thanks for the info,we are actually staying at the Westin Sydney downtown. Get a copy of The Star Observer at book shop or newsagent in Oxford Street and you can look up places to go or just wander along the street and pick what appeals. Adelaide is right.
Oxford St is the main street for nightclubs. One which might interest you is the Midnight Shift. This area is quite safe as there are lots of restaurants around here but as anywhere in a large city.
Whilst Sydney is gay friendly. The Gay Mardi Gras is something else but it is in March. Yep, come and join the fun in the 'gayest' city in the world Careful you don't get bashed because the police don't care.
If you pife young 25 - 35, Darlinghurst is the place to go but take care in side streets late at night and watch for yobs who are into gay bashing.
I think the Newtown Hotel is still closed dispute with landlord and the Imperial in Erskineville too - and watch the strip on Erskineville rd between African dating site in Adelaide BP station and King St Newtown as it is dangerous but the Bank Hotel near Newtown Station lkfe the roof garden at Kasbah across the road and also the top bar at Coopers Hotel on the corner of Hordern and King Sts are all nice places.
